Master’s degree programmes in Physiotherapy

Please note: SOMT is working towards offering selected master’s programmes in English, starting with Master Manual Therapy and Master Sports Physical Therapy. The intended start date for these English-taught master’s programmes is 1 January 2027. Other master’s programmes are currently taught in Dutch and require a sufficient level of Dutch language proficiency.

English and Dutch-taught master’s degree programmes in Physiotherapy

  • Master Manual Therapy – for physiotherapists who wish to specialise in manual therapy. Depending on the study format (full-time or part-time), the programme is offered in Amersfoort and Heerlen.
  • Master Sports Physical Therapy – for physiotherapists who wish to specialise in sports physiotherapy.

Dutch-taught master’s degree programmes in Physiotherapy

1 programme, 2 recognised master’s degrees

Looking for a double master’s degree in Physiotherapy? At SOMT, we call this 1 programme with 2 recognised master’s degrees. Would you like to broaden your expertise in physiotherapy? At SOMT, you can combine two master’s programmes within 1 programme with 2 recognised master’s degrees.

In this integrated four-year programme, you combine two SOMT master’s programmes and obtain two recognised master’s degrees. This allows you to develop into a clinical expert with both broad and in-depth expertise in treating complex musculoskeletal conditions.

The programme can be completed in four years and costs €9,800 per academic year, regardless of the combination of master’s programmes you choose.

Professional development for physiotherapists

SOMT’s master’s programmes are designed for physiotherapists who want to deepen their expertise and continue developing within the field of physiotherapy. Whether you are already working in clinical practice or wish to continue studying directly after your bachelor’s degree, our master’s programmes allow you to specialise in analysing and treating health problems from a biopsychosocial perspective on health and disease.

You will study within a continuously evolving context shaped by scientific, societal and technological developments. Through innovative, competency-based and practice-oriented education, you will develop advanced evidence-based clinical reasoning and clinical decision-making skills.

Throughout the programme, you will be guided by lecturers with academic backgrounds and extensive clinical experience.

NVAO-accredited master’s programmes

After completing a master’s programme, you will be awarded the degree Master of Science (MSc) in Physiotherapy. All master’s programmes at SOMT University of Physiotherapy are accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO).
