Digital dissection table

An interactive 3D approach to anatomy and physiology through virtual dissection.

The digital dissection table (Anatomage) is a great tool for teaching anatomy and physiology. Using 3D visualization, the anatomy of the human body can be displayed in even greater detail. This is the new way of learning!

The virtual dissection is highly accurate and based on four lifelike cadavers. The representation of anatomy therefore approaches real in vitro dissection teaching. The table allows exploration of human anatomy and physiology. The preserved cadavers have detailed accuracy. There are no chemicals, no unpleasant odor, no recurring facility costs and no regulations associated with the digital dissection table. In addition, all dissected tissue can be replaced with a snap.

This powerful effective teaching tool is used in undergraduate education at SOMT University of Physiotherapy. And we are proud of that! Students work independently and under the guidance of an instructor on and with the digital dissection table. Teaching with the digital dissection table is proven effective.

For students of physical therapy, medicine, for healthcare professionals, but also for designers of medical technology, it is essential to have knowledge about the anatomy and physiology of the human body. With the digital dissection table, the possibilities for this are endless! In addition to four digitized cadavers (bodies), there are also high resolution specimens and lots of different image material available (MRI images, CT scans and RO photos). Using advanced software, teachers and students can create 3D reconstructions of the body. Bodies can be virtually sectioned or rotated to focus on particular parts of the body.

Instructor Anja van ‘t Schip demonstrates the capabilities of the digital dissection table in this video.

SOMT University of Physiotherapy, in collaboration with Anatomage, has two digital dissection tables. This revolutionary visual dissection table allows our students to study the anatomy and physiology of digitized bodies in 3D. The digital dissection table is also used in our Master’s program and in our Life Long Learning courses.

Developed specifically for medical education and healthcare, this powerful clinical tool has endless possibilities. For example, it is possible to select one body part (e.g. the liver) and compare it with that of another body, show the complete circulatory system or compare (cross-) sections with MRI images. For teachers, physical therapists, other healthcare specialists and product designers, the digital dissection tables are a unique product for learning anatomy and physiology.

We can well imagine that there are also interesting applications possible within your institution/company. We offer this effective, powerful educational tool in combination with our expertise.

Teaching anatomy with the digital dissection table

The high-quality content of the digital dissection table makes it a powerful tool for anatomy and physiology education. Teaching with the digital dissection table is proven effective.

Are you a teacher at a college or university and interested in using the digital dissection table? Then contact us at info@somt.nl One of our professional lecturers from the digital dissection team would be happy to tell you more about the possibilities of the table and how you can use it in anatomy teaching.

Customized virtual dissection courses

For teams of physical therapists or healthcare specialists, we offer customized virtual dissection courses. Whether you want to study the knee with special attention to the anterior cruciate ligament, or increase your knowledge of gastrointestinal, liver medicine. In consultation, we put together a program that suits your learning needs.

Thorough knowledge of the (patho) anatomy of the bodies can be obtained. This is an important part of being able to properly understand disorders, explain the clinical symptoms, understand their influence on moving function and possibly provide solutions.

During the course, normal topographical and functional anatomy is discussed using the digital dissection table, in which specific structures are visualized in 3D. Here, of course, we place strong emphasis on the relevant anatomy of the region covered by the course. The functional anatomical knowledge is thereby structured within a clinical framework and/or presented as a clinical problem in the form of case histories and worked out with each other during working group activities.

The course structure supports the process of clinical reasoning to ultimately arrive at a well-considered evidence-based clinical decision resulting from the methodical physiotherapeutic action. In other words, care that matters!

If desired, we can also apply for accreditation for the customized course.
Want to know more about the possibilities for a customized course? Anything is possible: one day, part of a day, morning, afternoon or evening. We are happy to think along with you. For more information please contact info@somt.nl and we will be happy to help you.

Digital cutting table for engineers and product designers

Healthcare cannot do without technological innovations, such as this dissection table for educational purposes. But think of wearables, systems to analyze movement with, as well as prosthetics. We see more and more products and innovations that are worn on or come into contact with human bodies. The development of such products requires anatomical/physiological knowledge.

Our digital dissection team is ready for medical technology companies to translate requirements into a customized program. This way, we can help bring and keep knowledge up-to-date. Please contact info@somt.nl. We will be happy to tell you more about the possibilities and cordially invite you for a demonstration by one of our instructors.

Continuing education offerings with the digital cutting table

In the standard Lifelong Learning offerings of SOMT University of Physiotherapy, we offer courses throughout the year in which we use the digital dissection table to broaden and deepen knowledge of (patho-)anatomy and/or physiology.
