Applying from outside the EU/EEA? Complete your application by 1 April

Your application and all required documents must be complete by 1 April for a September start.

Start preparing early, especially if you need to take an English language test, arrange document translations or complete an immigration procedure.

Unsure which requirements apply to you? Contact admission@somt.nl well before the deadline.

1. Check the admission requirements

You need a diploma equivalent to the Dutch pre-university VWO diploma, including Biology and Mathematics at a level equivalent to Dutch VWO Mathematics A or B.

Your previous education and subjects will be assessed as part of your application. A matching interview is also part of the admission process and gives us the opportunity to discuss your motivation and suitability for the programme.

If you are unsure whether your qualifications meet the requirements, contact admission@somt.nl

2. Prepare your English language certificate

You must demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency. The same English language requirements apply as for SOMT’s Bachelor of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences.

Check the bachelor’s admission information and the Language Test Appendix on the official Code of Conduct website for information about accepted language certificates and minimum scores.

Arrange your test early enough to receive and submit your results before the application deadline. If you believe you qualify for an exemption, contact Admissions before submitting your application.

3. Submit your application through Osiris

You will apply through SOMT’s dedicated Osiris application route and upload all required documents there.

Prepare the following documents:

  • A valid passport.
  • Your diploma and official transcript of grades.
  • Proof of English language proficiency, unless an exemption has been confirmed.
  • Any additional documents requested for the assessment of your qualifications.
  • Translations or certified copies where required.

If you need an immigration procedure, additional documents will be required, such as financial evidence and the relevant immigration forms.

Follow the instructions in Osiris for the documents applicable to your situation. Make sure your uploads are complete and clearly readable.

Application link available soon.

4. Complete the admission process

SOMT will assess your application and supporting documents. Respond promptly if further information is requested.

You will be informed of the outcome and any conditions you still need to meet. Submitting an application does not automatically mean that you have been admitted.

Admission to the programme and permission to reside in the Netherlands are separate decisions.

Tuition fees and application costs

The new fee schedule will include tuition fees and the costs of applying for a residence permit.

Tuition fees and residence permit application costs will be published soon.

You will also need to budget for accommodation, insurance, travel, books and everyday living expenses. These are separate from tuition fees and immigration application costs.

For questions about fees, payment arrangements or cancellation conditions, contact admission@somt.nl

5. Prepare your financial documents

If you need a student residence permit, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds for 12 months of living expenses. This amount is separate from your tuition fees.

The IND sets the required amount and updates it annually. Use the amount applicable to your application rather than figures from an earlier year.

Financial evidence may include bank documents, a scholarship declaration or evidence of financial support. Follow SOMT’s instructions for the evidence required in your situation.

Check the current IND financial requirements for students.

6. Arrange your visa and residence permit

If you are not an EU/EEA or Swiss citizen, you will generally need a residence permit to study in the Netherlands for more than 90 days. Depending on your nationality and circumstances, you may also need an entry visa, known as an MVV.

SOMT submits the student residence permit application to the IND on your behalf once the requirements have been met. Follow the instructions provided for your situation.

7. Prepare for your arrival

Start looking for accommodation early. You are responsible for arranging your own housing; SOMT can provide guidance and useful resources.

Before travelling, make sure you understand the immigration requirements that apply to you and have arranged suitable health insurance.

After arrival, practical steps may include:

  • Registering with your municipality and obtaining a BSN.
  • Collecting your residence permit.
  • Attending a tuberculosis test if required.
  • Completing your enrolment at SOMT.

Follow the instructions and appointment deadlines provided for your situation.
